Cat thinkies — Ursula is feeling her age

Closeup photo of cat with huge worried yellow eyes thinking Is this a midlife crisis?

Ursula the cat has discovered that she is nearly four years old—almost a third of the way through her expected life span. So what? you ask. Well, fractions are not her strong point and she has suddenly lost confidence. She is obviously thinking, “What have I achieved? What is the point of life? Soon I will be a useless old cat with ragged fur.” I will support her through this identity crisis even though I think it is premature; after all, at 75 I had a similar epiphany.

Send Ursula to live with my sister. Any cat or dog that goes there lives until they’re twenty! That should stave off her age-related crisis for another two to three years 😉

Thanks for the offer. I will discuss it with her but she is a homebody who enjoys exquisite neurotic self torture so don’t hold your breath.

At least, at that age, she is unlikely to be finding that most of the furblobs of her generation are no longer extant.
When she actually exceeds the feline equivalent of the human threescore and ten . . .

Wait. At 75 you realized your life was 1/3 over? I love it. I will adapt your perspective. At 71 my life is 1/3 over!

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

It wasn’t quite that similar but I can reframe 🙂
