Introducing a new podcast about an unpopular topic: old age

Have you had a wake-up birthday, when you realise with a shock that you are no longer young? And yet life is long: if you’re 50+ you might live for another 30 or 40 years. It’s hard to imagine what life might be like when you are old, so consider this old age podcast a quiet little taster. I’m an old poet from New Zealand, name of Rachel McAlpine, keen to tell you about the weird side of old age including many unexpected pleasures. (Yes, you read that right.) Season 1 starts here.

The secret to being old is not to stop living for a long time? And move the goal-posts. Sixty? Nah, I’m not old. Seventy? Nah, I’m not old. Eighty? Nah, I’m not old. Ninety? Well, maybe a shade elderly!

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

      Yep, that’s how it goes.

Love getting to hear your voice.

  3. Love the idea. Searched for it in my podcast feed and it didn’t show up. 🙁

Later. It’s annoying but you have to publish an episode of a podcast BEFORE you can get it on directories and so, before it can be found.

Thanks for the recommendations, Rachel. I am pretty much addicted to podcasts as well however, because I use them as a ‘go back to sleep’ aid, I find I sometimes have to rewind them if they are really good, or I find the ‘characters’ appearing in my dreams. I’ve been doing it for years and I still seem to get enough sleep, so I assume it’s okay! I listen to the original and still very good This American Life when I just want to hear some good stories, Griefcast was valuable for me in earlier days. Now I listen to Team Human and Regeneration.

I’m a gotosleep user too. If I’m having trouble I choose boring ones. I’ll check out the ones you mention
