Why we are sad—poem

Why we are sad

for a portal cracking open
for a crumbling under bark

for ponytails and polo necks
a child in the dark

for the lumpiness of sorrow
and the immanence of joy

Sorrow definitely is lumpy, though I had never thought to describe it thus.

yes interesting “lumpiness” – I suppose as we ride the waves, of “I’m going to get on top of this…we make some headway…then something catches us…we we start falling back down” And then we wrestle in bed, the mattress has some lumpy bits, we fight to move away from that lumpiness and the next minute we are back wrestling with both the mattress and getting a good nights sleep…

Short and to the point well described.
