Old women dancing

I’ve dedicated the dance of the day to my friend who just turned 92 and has a brand new hip. Nothing fancy, just flinging myself around. Most of us old women dancing do it in secret, some of us only dance with our minds or a couple of body parts but trust me, we old women are dancing in our 60s, 70s, 80s and (surely) 90s. Zaz sings Je Veux, irresistible.

Dance of the day for my friend’s 92nd birthday. Old is different now

(If you look at the video in Reader it won’t go: you need to view it on my actual web site or on YouTube.)

Happy hip-day!

Originally written for Jan Bolwell who leads the Crows Feet Dance Collective of young and old women dancing in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

The hip op was tip-top.
Soon you will hip-hop
and high kick and flip-flop—
not just in your brain.

Last week you sat
like a marionette.
Now you are back
in motion again.

Gone is the duck walk
the bald, worn out bone.
Posies and pirouettes!
Gone is the pain.

Hip hip hooray
for the hip of the day!

I so love to dance… but there’s so little opportunity nowadays.
I should just put on the music and dance in the living room (I need the exercise) but somehow the time just goes and I have to get dinner and feed the dogs.

I’ve got a playlist of irresistible songs but the radio often obliges. Why not dance for 30 seconds when the right music starts?

I turn 55 next month and I can’t wait for my 60s now!

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

But Nyla, you must wait! But you can dance in the queue

  3. Love this! I was dancing all around my apartment yesterday and glad, at 61, I’m not alone and have many more years of dancing to look forward to.Thank you for sharing!

Was worried for a second that you fell off camera! Love your pep and style. Made me smile while I lazily lay in bed as it’s night in the U.S. Bravo!

The dress had just the right twirl factor don’t you think?

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

And ballooning — it has a mind of its own. I am wearing it now as I go off to an Almost Old Meet-Up

      1. Elizabeth says:

I remember being in a fun house as a little girl and the blast of air pushing my dress up around my ears. I didn’t think it was funny, though my brother did.
