Round things in morning minds

Circularity is a fine quality in a mirror

Morning minds in the round

I'm not ADHD nor
very neurotic nor synaesthetic
but still I am different
I'm me

We're all on a spectrum
somewhere in the jungle
of ABCD EFG
dot dot dot XYZ

Our minds in the morning
go cycling on tracks
old and new. For you
it's appointments or friends

or Javelin anti-tank missiles
or football or God
or a suitable rhyme
for Ukraine.

Floating in my morning mind
are round things like raisins
and waltzes and moons
and te reo.

Rounds. Spheres. Curves.
Circles. Mounds.
Orbs. Globes. Ovals.
Flow.

  1. Great poem! & pics to go with. Happy Easter Rachel (there’s even some rounds and ovals in those words.)

  2. I enjoyed your circular thoughts and photos. What a whirl!

    Happy Easter!

  3. I so agree; the morning mind is fresh and clear before the outside world impinges.

I love your morning mind. Mine goes to Morning Pages and then emails. Not many round things.

  5. The photos opened quickly for me, Rachel. I like that idea, that we’re all somewhere on a spectrum:)

  6. Love those gumboots and those round ideas XX

    Happy Easter, Rachel. 🙂

My morning mind is usually going “what the frack made me dream that??” at first, followed by “what day is it today?” (Alas, I’m only too aware of who the Prime Minister is…)

Then I’ll do a few puzzle games on my phone to get my brain cells working, peek at email and notifications, and eventually force myself out of bed.

I smiled when I saw you have an espresso pot! We have a family of those in a cupboard, different sizes according to how many people require coffee. I’m the black sheep of the family, however, in preferring tea to coffee.

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

Sounds like you have a very comfortable start to your day

  8. I may get around to commenting when I’ve squared my thoughts!

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

      You’ll need to line up.

      1. I’ll amuse myself by playing the triangle!

  9. Lillie says:

This thought train has me spinning! Happy Easter!

  10. Elizabeth says:

What is Ursula thinking in that picture? She definitely seems to have an opinion. Had she had her breakfast yet?

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

Our telepathic bond has been corrupted so I can only guess. Maybe she is hoping for a second breakfast, poor dear.

  11. Lakshmi Bhat says:
