Off to Gisborne for fun and a poetry reading

Books in a book bag: destined for Muir’s Bookshop in Gisborne

Books for sale: I’m off to Gisborne for a reading on Monday 6 May 2019 at Marvellous Muir’s Bookshop and cafe. And for fun with friends. Hoping for a sea swim or two. Bye now!

Update: a perfect holiday in and around Gisborne

Home again now, and here’s a quick report. Perfect weather, endless beach, two sea swims, a Moana Maniopoto concert, yoga class, inspiring conversation, and a detour to the Morere hot pools among old nikau palms. Topped off by my friend’s speeding ticket which almost became something worse when the police officer’s breathalyser was triggered by a bag of feijoas 🙂 (Driver was sober, car was drunk on fruit perfume.)

As for the reading, here’s the Gisborne Herald report. (I thought the audience, venue, and host were all marvellous.)

    Early looks
    Make the event look good

    But really, Rache,l you should
    –to be concise–

    lay off the wine
Until you’ve been able to sign

With a flourish all those books
Which your guests will have stood

    In long lines for,
    Their expectations sunny.

But then it might be nice
If you were to get funny

    That way, thereby adding spice
To an evening at the bookstore,

    And maybe even entice
The unenlightened to cough up more

    Of their not-meant-for poetry money..
    (I surely would)

Good luck with the swim – sounds rather too cold for me … but have a wonderful time – sounds like it’ll be ideal, and is the kind of event that suits you … congratulations – with all the poetry and all the book signing … lots to be done! Cheers Hilary

You don’t manage to look too strident in that lovely photo.

    1. Rachel McAlpine says:

Any feminist was a strident feminist in those days 🙂
